This challenging circuit climbs and descends in the Chavanon gorges.

This circuit is part of the FFVélo Haute-Corrèze mountain bike base, the largest mountain biking area in France with 1000 km of marked circuits. It is classified as a sporty circuit because it is a series of steep descents and climbs with highly technical passages on portions of degraded trails. Stunning passages through the gorges and on the plateaus. Reserved for lovers of technical courses.

    Le Massif du Sancy

    At 1885 metres above sea level, this summit is the highest point of the Massif Central. The two streams, the Dore and the Dogne, originate there, and their confluence forms the Dordogne.

    Between Auvergne and Limousin, the suspension bridge over the Chavanon crosses this eponymous river and offers a magnificent view over the Massif du Sancy.Nicknamed the "presidents' motorway", it crosses the political strongholds of Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Jacques Chirac and François Hollande, the A 89 links Bordeaux to Lyon by crossing the Massif Central. It is 550 km long and was put into service along its entire route in 2018.

Access and parking

19 km from Ussel, follow the D1089.
The departure point is on the edge of the D1089, as you leave Merlines, heading in the direction of Clermont-Ferrand.
