Local memory and exploring the natural landscape will offer you a splendid overview of the history and heritage of Neuvic.
Visit the arboretum of Puy Chaffaud to learn how to differentiate between the different species of trees. Once you have finished your lesson, walk through the forests and take a break at the edge of the Vergne pond. On the way, pay attention, listen for the black woodpecker and surprise the deer or the roebuck. This walk will allow you to explore the forest, an economic asset of the region whose beauty changes with the seasons.

4 points of interest

  • Resistance

    Tribute to the Resistance

Below the path is a statue raised as a tribute to the Resistance fighters of the Second World War. Made by Raymond Couvègnes, it represents a maquisard, naked as in ancient times, holding a grenade in one hand. The departmental museum of the Resistance Henri Queuille, located in the town centre, gives you the chance to discover the life and political activities of President Queuille as well as the action of the Resistance in Haute-Corrèze.
  • Panorama

    The Puy de Sancy

This hike will offer you a remarkable view of the highest volcano in metropolitan France, the Puy de Sancy. At 1,885 metres above sea level, this summit is the highest point of the Massif Central. The two streams, the Dore and the Dogne, originate there, and their confluence forms the Dordogne.
  • Flora

    The forest of La Vergne

While the first part of the route leads through coniferous forests with numerous logging areas, this magnificent path leads to a beech forest.
Historically, the department of Corrèze was not forested. In 1900, forests in Corrèze occupied only ¼ of the territory. Today, almost half of the department's surface is wooded. The significant abandonment of agriculture has encouraged planting, particularly of softwoods, with a clear predilection for planting Douglas fir. The Antoine Munoz crossroads pays tribute to a former forest ranger.
  • History

    The wash house

In 1929, the town of Neuvic undertook the creation of three washhouses, including this one, the Raymonde wash house. Two other washhouses are still visible (the Grandes washhouse and the Gane washhouse). They remained in use until the middle of the 20th century when they were gradually supplanted by domestic washing machines.
