    Lestrade

    The villages of Haute-Corrèze have all been involved in agriculture. In Lestrade, don't miss the chapel, the bread oven, the dry stone walls…

    Mont Bessou

    In the distance, easily identifiable thanks to its television and telephone broadcasting antenna, stands Mont Bessou. At 976 metres, it is the highest point in the Limousin. When you return from your walk, make a detour to discover a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the Monts d'Auvergne from the top of its panoramic tower.

    La Vialle

    On the heights of Meymac, in the vicinity of La Vialle, this place is ideal for soaking up traditional and ancient landscapes because they have become so rare. Note the village layout on the south-facing slope, with granite buildings. The path rises, and the rocky summit is occupied by heather moors, the domain of sheep.

    The Mountains of Auvergne

    At the level of the village of Le Vert, this hike offers a view of the Monts d'Auvergne: to the right, the Massif du Cantal is the remnant of a stratovolcano formed 13 million years ago, the largest in Europe, eroded by collapse and glacial erosion. Then on the left, you can see the volcanic massif of Sancy (1,886 m), the highest point of the Massif Central.

Description

Depart from the Lestrade chapel. In front of the departure sign, turn left (or right for the shorter family trail) towards La Vialle.

  1. As you leave the village, take the path that goes up to the right of the old bread oven. Go past a path on your right. Join a track and follow it straight ahead. At the top, go back down to where the tracks cross.
  2. Turn onto the track to the left. This goes up and towards a plateau passing two paths on the left, then descends again. Turn left where the tracks cross to find the road. Turn left and go through La Vialle.
  3. Before the last houses, take the track on the right. At the large shed, follow a track on the left that rises and then drops down to the road. Follow it for 300 metres.
  4. Take the path that descends to the right; stay on the main path, pass a restored farmhouse and join a road.
  5. Follow it to the left. In the village, turn right towards Encaux. Continue up the road, ignoring the roads to the right towards Le Vert and then La Férode.
  6. Before entering the village of Encaux, take the path to the right. Follow it as far as Le Colomby.
  7. Keep left in the village. Turn left again as you leave it: the road becomes a track. Stay on this main track that goes up to Lestrade.
  8. After the first houses, take the road on the left to find the starting point again.

Access and parking

From Meymac, follow the D30 towards Sornac. 1 km after leaving the village, turn left to take the D 30E2 towards Lestrade.
